Summary of the Field Trip

As previously explained, the dunes our team is studying during this project are the Loonse en Drunense dunes. These dunes are located in the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant, near the city of Tilburg. In order to fulfill the goals explained in the previous article, our team spent four days in the Loonse en Drunense dunes area.

Plan of Approach

After a few discussions during  the project kickoff, the team agreed to settle any confusion during the project meeting with our mentor, Nathan Bowden, who is also the coordinator of the minor Environmental Geography in Avans the following friday. The initial reaction to the project was an unanimous confusion that settled quickly in to determination. Questions began forming in our heads: what sort of sampling needs to be done? Which plant species are important to recognise? What information is required to be gathered in the upcoming fieldtrip? Nathan was more than willing to provide us answers to some of the questions we had; some of them we had to figure out ourselves. However, more questions began to bud off of the questions we started from: how many of these samples–and what will we be sampling? Would it be effective to try sampling in a transect or quadrat type? These things were later discussed and resolved in a group meeting.
